Brush and clean the walls of your pool using BioGuard 'Off the Wall' and vacuum it thoroughly to remove any debris. Clean the skimmer basket and lint basket on pump.
Chlorine/Bromine pools use BioGuard 'Strip Kwik' filter cleaner to clean any oils that are present in filter san. NEVER store a dirty filter, it can cake and harden over the winter, leaving you with a tough clean-up job in the spring.
Drain your pool at least 6 inches below your lowest opening.
Install ice equalizer and secure it.
Drain equipment per manufacturer’s recommendations. SoftSwim pool owners must discard filter sand after each season. Chlorine and bromine users should change sand at least every 3-4 seasons and clean sand each season.
Clean and remove ladder and solar blanket.
Disconnect any light fixtures; 'Aqua Luminator' bulbs must be removed after water is drawn down.
Any extra equipment, such as Nature2 or Frog cartridges should be discarded.
Clean, disassemble and store automatic cleaners (remembering to take apart hose sections for storage) pool tools, baskets, and pump. Take pump inside for winter. Cover your pool with a good quality winter cover and check to make sure it is in good condition without any holes or tears, as these could cause dirty water to drain into the pool and a chemical demand in the spring may occur.
Put winter cover on pool and weigh down by putting water on top of cover. Remember, tying down milk jugs to weight the cover will void manufacturer’s warranty. IF you live in an area with a lot of wind, use cover locks to secure winter cover.
Plan any repairs or replacements for your pool equipment this fall/winter. Parts are much easier to locate now and generally there is less pressure to make repairs at this time of the year.
